Western Australia

Sophie’s first long-haul flight, two motorhomes and eleven days of learning how a family road trip could work.

Singapore to Perth

The First Flight

Sophie was still small enough to sleep through much of the journey. Perth was our first long trip with her, and the beginning of eleven days with the wider family.

Two Motorhomes

We collected two motorhomes and headed south. This was the first lesson of the trip: no fixed rhythm, only the practical work of feeding Sophie, setting up camp and moving on when everyone was ready.

Stops Along the Way

The route carried us from Lake Brockman towards the coast, then through forest and on to Albany. The road was long, but each stop gave the trip a different kind of day: a campfire, a beach path, a boardwalk and the sea below The Gap.

Small Days in the City

Once the road loop ended, the motorhomes went back. We stayed on in Perth for a few quieter days: a stroller walk, a small hotel room, and time to slow down before heading home.

Closing thoughts

The First of Many

This first camper-van trip showed us that travelling this way could work as a family. It made us excited to do more: longer trips, bigger adventures and, one day, a motorhome journey around Europe. Perth was where that idea began.
