Rome, Running on Empty
It was our first time managing jet lag while travelling with Sophie. After the overnight flight, we were exhausted while she was still wide awake, so we put a helmet on her and took turns dozing on the couch nearby. It was pure survival for the first day.

The Cruise Begins
Once we boarded the Koningsdam, the days soon found a rhythm.

Dubrovnik · Croatia · Kotor · Montenegro
The Adriatic
Most days began with a new shore: Dubrovnik’s coastline, Kotor Bay and old towns along the Adriatic. By evening, we were back at the ship, ready for the next place.

Split · Croatia · Trieste · Italy
Further Up the Adriatic
By Split and Trieste, Sophie was beginning to walk—but still needed a hand to hold.

Valletta · Malta
Malta and the Sea
Valletta was a beautiful city, and we spent the day wandering its streets. We noticed a small beach and some locals swimming, so Sophie and I went for an unplanned swim in crystal-clear waters.

Catania · Sicily · Naples · Italy
The Last Italian Stops
Catania came first, with Mount Etna above the harbour. Naples was the final port call before the cruise ended.

On the Way Home
A short stopover: a little shopping, then the Burj Khalifa before the last flight home.
