Osaka and Kyoto with Sophie

This was our first trip to Japan with Sophie. She was still a baby, so we travelled more slowly, but we still managed to experience Osaka and Kyoto together.

Osaka

We began in Osaka, exploring Dotonbori and eating our way through the streets before visiting Osaka Castle. Travelling with Sophie meant stopping often, but it gave the trip a different pace.

Osaka to Kyoto · 27 May

The Train to Kyoto

From Osaka, we took the train to Kyoto. Sophie spent much of the journey at the window. After arriving, we walked beside the canal and visited Pontocho that evening.

Central Kyoto · 28 May

Nishiki Market and Gion

We spent the day exploring Nishiki Market, Shinkyogoku and Gion. That evening, we watched a traditional music and dance performance.

Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari · 29 May

Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Fushimi Inari were two highlights of Kyoto. With Sophie still needing to be fed and carried along the way, we simply took our time.

Kyoto · 30–31 May

Last Day

We kept our final full day easy, with an afternoon at AEON Mall. Early the next morning, we took the Hello Kitty Haruka from Kyoto Station to Kansai Airport and headed home.
